“Sorry, I didn’t get any work done [on my passion project] this week because I have a lot of exams coming up.”
This is a common phrase that facilitators hear when working with young people to help them launch passion projects. They are consistently deemed less important than traditional schoolwork.
To me, it feels like a kid working on a social issue they care deeply about should be the most important piece of their education.
Not exams
Not tests
Not homework
Not essays
A kid standing up and saying “I care about this and I want to do something about it” is so rare, and needs to be supported at all costs.
