“It’s not what you want to be when you grow up, it’s what you want to be next as you continue growing.” -Dave Evans, author of Designing Your Life
I think we psyche ourselves out when we think about “what we want to be when we grow up.” Does anyone ever stop growing up? Does anyone ever know what they ultimately want to be? No and no.
So we need to stop asking this silly question. The better question is what do you want to be next? The only step we can take right now is the next one. Our focus should be on making sure that immediate action is a good one, rather than trying to predict what the future will look like in 20 years.
If you’re not sure what to do with your life, don’t worry. Take the best next step. You’re on a good path.
