After going on a few hikes recently on lightly trafficked, sparsely marked trails, I found an important metaphor:
If you look too far ahead, you get lost. If you look for the next step, you will stay on the trail.
In the picture above, if you look into the right third of the picture, it’s entirely unclear where the trail will be. You can assume it will loop around to the right, but you can’t actually see the trail. All you know if that you can walk a few steps toward the trailmarker.
It’s hard to know where life will take you and if you try to look too far ahead, you will lose track of what’s right in front of you. The magic is in the next step.
