Any one individual can only go as far as the system allows.
To go higher, you must leave the system, or change the system.
While this is true in companies, schools, governments and other institutions, it’s rather abstract. To imagine this phenomenon visually, picture a vertical tunnel. The tunnel is cylindrical in shape and has a ceiling 40 feet above the ground. If you are flying a mini helicopter, you cannot go higher than 40 feet. You can fly at 39 feet, or even 3 feet, but never higher than 40.
Unless that is, if you exit the tunnel. Or if you move the ceiling.
Most work that humans do isn’t quite so black and white, but it’s similar. Ceilings exist, and tunnels exist. If you’re close to the door, it’s easy to leave the tunnel. But for the millions still trapped in there, they would love a higher ceiling.
