There is an optimal zone of challenge. When you push too far, you get burnout and loss of confidence. When you don’t push enough you miss out on lost potential.
The role of a facilitator, coach, mentor, teacher is to find the right zone of challenge for the people they are working with. To push them to be their best, without pushing beyond what’s feasible.
Make a goal too big and people won’t start. Make a goal too small and people won’t be excited.
Balance is subjective and that’s why we always need more capable and caring individuals to lead.
