“Risk is the tariff paid to leave the shores of predictable misery.”*
There’s something deeply resonant about the quote. Trying something new, doing your own thing, these are risky moves. They may lead to success, or misery. You never know.
All that you know is that NOT doing your own thing will certainly lead to misery. That’s what you want to avoid. Better to venture into the unknown and learn how to sail than to stay on shore in a slowly burning land.
*This quote seems to be attributable to chef, John Folse, though I heard it in the How I Built This episode with Peloton founder, Jon Foley, where he attributes it to a professor at Stanford.
