It’s easy to buy into this if you’re an entrepreneur. Develop in isolation, stay inside the building and release your revolutionary product and enjoy success.
From the outside, it looked like Apple did this. Let’s not forget that Apple built its first product in a garage! They were part of a tight knit community of computer geeks and already had this audience of early adopters. It took almost 25 years since their founding for them to release products like the iPod and iPhone. It didn’t come out of thin air.
You have to know your market. 25 years in consumer tech led to Apple releasing some of the most successful products of all time. Don’t expect that with a little bit of vision you can accomplish the same feat in 6 months.
Talk to customers. Observe human interactions. Make prototypes. Let people use your prototypes. Iterate.
