Every company loves the OUTCOMES of innovation: better results, improved offerings, more successful organization.
But why so many don’t achieve these results are because they’re not willing to enroll in the PROCESS of innovation: The process entails uncertainty, potential for wasted time and money and an upstream battle.
So when a company says they encourage innovation, ask another question. How do they encourage the creative process? Because it’s often messy and unclear. It’s worth it in the end. But it’s valuable because it’s scarce. Scary and scarce.
