The fear of showing someone your work is overwhelming. So much so that most of us just don’t do it. We don’t show off our work because we’re scared of what people will say.
Our finished product feels permanent and thus any criticism is also permanent. This all seems true until we view this “finished product” as just another step in the right direction. It’s not an outcome, it’s just a part of the process.
Though your process creates something, instead of focusing on that thing, focus on the process of creating it. Now the criticism isn’t attached to your work, it’s attached to something different and less permanent: the process.
Use the criticism to refine your process for the next time. Creation is a constant process. It never ends. Outcomes end, but processes persist and can always be improved.
Each thing you produce is just another step towards a better process.
