Yesterday I was facilitating a workshop. There were four students who knew each other sitting in a circle.
There was one student who didn’t know anyone, sitting outside the circle, alone and looking at his phone.
A student in the circle turned to him and said “what’s your name?” And he walked over and joined them.
It was simple, but beautiful. The epitome of emotional awareness and inclusion.
By the end, the student who didn’t know anyone asked for contact information so he could keep in touch.
A little gesture can go so far.
