We follow it and cover it like it is.
And honestly, after I’ve gotten more engaged in the past few months, I’ve fallen into the same trap.
Even after listening to podcasts, and reading articles and following headlines, I still don’t know much about the candidates platforms. But I do know who is polling ahead in this moment.
We praise following politics as a form of engagement, but unfortunately just browsing news coverage isn’t really what engagement looks like. We’re covering the flashy stuff. The numbers, the scores.
At the end of the day, all the policies we’re talking about have human impacts. And we don’t need to wait for policy overhauls to start seeing human impact.
Real engagement happens on a smaller scale. Real engagement in civic life is about serving your community. Helping the people around you, listening to their issues and finding solutions.
