Someone couldn’t think of the term “specific heat” the other day. I, on the other hand, will never forget the term and what it means because of a video I saw when I was 17.
The video was of a man who put molten metal on his tongue. And nothing happened. Because by the time the water on his tongue heated up, the metal had lost all its heat and was solid.
This demonstrates how high the specific heat of water is. It takes a lot of energy to heat or cool water. It doesn’t take a lot of energy to heat or cool metal. That’s why you can put aluminum foil in the oven and touch it a minute after it was 450 degrees.
I will never forget that term because of one crazy video. Learning can happen slowly, or it can happen in leaps and bounds. It only takes one meaningful experience to keep a memory ingrained for a lifetime.
