I get frustrated when people say that an opportunity to pursue a passion “will only work for certain students.” As if curiosity is not a universal human characteristic. As if it’s the student’s fault that they’re disengaged and have no productive place to direct their curiosity.
That’s our fault.
It’s on us that students aren’t curious anymore. Curiosity is inside everyone. Until it’s not. When anything goes a long enough time without being fed, it dies. And that’s what’s happening right now.
We need to show up with nutrients for curiosity. Students are hungry for it. Now it’s time to get cooking.
