We aren’t going to see society and technology advance as quickly as we’d like because there aren’t enough people out there willing to make it happen.
There are not enough Elon Musks who are stepping out to champion change.
Most people HATE change. Even self-driving cars, the very ones that could save tens of thousands of lives each year, are met with huge resistance. People are terrified to make the switch. It takes a bold individual to spearhead a movement. Before we see things like AI and personal robots take off, we’re going to need more people to take a step into the unknown and make it happen.
We can’t be that surprised, though. Where are people like Musk supposed to come from? They certainly aren’t bred in schools or universities. They probably aren’t coming from big companies either. How does our society encourage these world changers? If we really want to see a revolutionary future, we should start implementing systems to nurture the next generation of leaders.
We can’t wait for society to build this, though. Because in reality, society doesn’t want new. A few people want change, but those early adopters are no match for the millions that prefer comfort at the expense of higher quality of life.
It’s on us. It’s our turn to build the next generation of leaders to take us into a brighter future. The capital exists to invest in new projects. Big companies are paying huge premiums for innovation. That means that there is an excess supply of capital and not enough new ideas worthy of investment.
It’s up to us to create the technologies, companies and most importantly, the people that will bring us into an uncertain future.
