Where is the balance between growth mindset and specialization?
I know I’m not great running the operations of an organization. I’m better on the product side, developing new ideas, creating events, learning from users, telling stories.
Growth mindset would say, “You could get better at operations.” And it’s definitely true. I could deliberately practice certain habits to improve my effectiveness in that domain.
Specialization would say “Focus on what you’re good at and hire someone else to complement your skill set.” Which is also true. There are people who LOVE organization, operations, optimization. I’m just not one of them.
At what point do you let yourself off the hook and say “it’s not for me”? Or do you say “I’m going to put my head down and grind through getting better”?
It’s hard to say. Like everything, balance is key…
