If you watch Lloyd Squires stand next to the wood fired oven and hand-roll a bagel, I guarantee it will taste better.
His bakery, Myer’s bagels, in Burlington is my favorite bagel. You don’t need any extra magic for it to be the most delicious breakfast item in Vermont, but seeing the creation adds to the effect.
It’s not just about the flour and the water. It’s about the story we tell ourselves. When you see the hard work and expertise that goes into your bagel, it’s going to be more enjoyable.
Think about a pasta dinner. In a blind taste test, my home cooked pasta would never beat a restaurant’s. But when you spend an hour in the kitchen preparing a meal, it sure tastes good when it’s finally time to sit down and eat.
Luckily, life isn’t a blind taste test. Pepsi wins blind taste tests. Coke wins the hearts and minds of consumers by telling a story.
Tell your story.
