The more experience you create the more fodder you have to debrief.
Like Dewey said, “We do not learn from experience. We learn from reflecting on experience.”
Experience without reflection is just another form of consumerism or hyperactivity. But having no experience is like trying to edit a video after shooting no footage.
When creating learning experiences, you must first engage participants in something active, before you can then debrief, and extract learning. Talking and relaying content without experience, is again, like trying to make a video with no footage. It’s all backwards.
