Every day millions of teenagers, sit behind desks, take notes and do the assigned work (maybe). I think we can all agreee that this format of learning is not the ideal way to help someone connect with a passion, or an interest, or a problem that they want to solve.
Dual School was built to fill that gap.
Dual School is a program where high school students from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds can explore their passions.
In a 10-week sprint, students take action to launch projects that matter to them. Projects like metal health support groups, financial literacy programs and computer science camps. We start with a kickoff weekend to build community among students. We meet for 3 hours/week and conclude with a public exhibition where we invite family, teachers, administrators, business leaders and anyone else who wants to see the student work.
Many programs geared toward students are about planning, researching and theory. Dual School is the opposite. We focus on helping students take action on their ideas. 90% of students who go through our program prototype at least once during the 10 week time period.
75% of Dual School students would not have done anything with their ideas if they did not join the program. 80% continue working on their projects after the 10 weeks is over.
This is not a one-off, feel-good event. This is a lasting mind-set shift.
Right now, we can serve about 100 students/year, but there are thousands that need and deserve the opportunity to work on their passions.
