I got a bunch of new books for Christmas and I can’t wait to dig into them. It got me thinking about how much of a bargain a book is. A $20 book could change your life. I’ve gotten some pretty good deals for $20, but I wouldn’t say that owning this black quarter-zip was life-changing.
Many people (read: thought leaders, influencers, CEOS) say that they don’t ever question a book purchase. If they see a book that looks interesting, they buy it. My philosophy isn’t that extreme because I already have a backlog of dozens of books that I haven’t gotten to yet. But, I do appreciate the rationale behind this technique.
If a book gives you just one idea that changes the way you see, it’s worth it. For those of us who can’t afford to pay full price every time, check out Amazon for cheap used books, borrow them from the local library or stop by your local used book store. Also, just ask! If you want to read anything from my collection, let me know.
Some of the most pivotal books in my life have been How to Win Friends and Influence People and Freakonomics. I’m excited to dig into How to Live a Good Life by Jonathan Fields, Tools of Titans by Tim Ferriss and Show Your Work by Austin Kleon.
