When I first played tennis, I had an A game and a D game. If I got rattled, my play went down hill fast.
It turns out, this isn’t uncommon in a sport like tennis. The mental aspect is crucial to success and if you aren’t strong in your head, you will defeat yourself.
I lost matches because I didn’t have a B game. It was either great, or self destructive. I started winning matches when I learned how to play well when I wasn’t playing great.
The same goes for work in any field. How good are you on the bad days? Do you self destruct? Or do you fall back on habits and processes needed to succeed?
We all have A days, but not everyone has a strong B game.
