If people were rational, there would be no reason to advertise that a certain corner store sold a winning lottery ticket.
But of course, humans are not rational. We believe in streaks, thinking that if we’ve flipped heads 10 times in a row, we’re “due for a tails.” Or that if a $20,000 ticket sold last week, another big one must be coming from the same store.
Mathematically it makes no sense, but emotionally it feels compelling.
You have to know what’s real. Emotions are great in relationships, but not in gambling.
